Where to eat in Batam: Wey Wey Seafood
My friends and I were really craving for some seafood on our last night in Batam. We didn't really have any particular restaurant in mind so we told our driver what we wanted, and he took us to Wey Wey Seafood, a restaurant that he'd bring all of his guests whenever they ask for a recommendation.
Wey Wey Seafood is located at Harbour Bay and this spot is pretty well known amongst tourists visiting Batam Island. There were more seafood restaurants along the same road but we weren’t that picky and decided to trust our driver’s recommendation.
The restaurant served mainly seafood and other side dishes, with a no pork no lard policy. However, all of the seafood restaurants along Harbour Bay did have alcohol on their menu, so please dine at your own discretion. There are no prices listed on the menu so you might have to be a little careful and ensure that you are not overcharged. It's best to clarify with the waiters and waitresses in advance before ordering, as most of the seafood are priced according to weight and portion.
We went to the place at night, so there wasn't really that much of a view but the whole setup was pretty decent. It was drizzling so we had no choice but to choose the seats that were sheltered and located near their busy kitchen and washing area. This can be a concern if you are dining with young children. If you do have a choice, go alfresco and dine by the sea. The fresh air would make a whole lot of difference.
The food was fresh and honestly, pretty affordable. We spent approximately SGD98 on the whole feast with ten dishes, a big bucket of rice, twelve drinks, two coconuts and one bottle of beer for our non-Muslim friend. We divided the cost evenly so that means that we only paid SGD14 per person.
Despite reaching after the heavy downpour, the ambiance was really calming with pretty fairy lights and the occasional sea breeze. I can't even begin to imagine how beautiful this place looks like while the sun is going down but after seeing some photos from Google maps, I'd say the sunset here is pretty beautiful!

p.s. I do have to apologise for the quality of images in this blog post. It was an impromptu decision to write an article about this visit so I did not bring along my camera for dinner. All photos were taken with my iPhone. 😣
